Today’s ONE THING: Who is Your Number One Fan?

  • Acts 15:32 (NKJV) Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words.

My cat, Lucy, is the grand old lady of the house.  In “human” years she is around 80 years old.  She and I have this little thing going: every time I begin playing the piano, no matter where she is in the house, she makes her way to where I am and lays there listening to me play.  I chuckled the other day when I thought to myself, my number one fan is a gal in her 80’s.

I hear you asking, “What does that have to do with today’s verse?”

Well, as you could imagine, as a preacher, I really like the part in today’s verse about “many words.”  And I think we both could agree that there are indeed times that are times in which many words are needed.

However, like me, I bet you also know people who are their own number one fan – they love to hear themselves talk and perform.  Life is all about them and they really don’t have time for anyone else.

Perhaps it is a good reminder to us all to remember that most often the proper response is to practice the refreshing habit of listening and learning before exhorting and strengthening.
