Acts 15:3 (NKJV) and they caused great joy to all the brethren.
Recently Sonja and I took our granddaughter Trinitee out for a “date night”. We took her to the mall for a nice meal and then by a little “nail spa” where she got her nails done. She was thrilled. She kept repeating, “I am so happy!” or “I can’t believe this.” Needless to say, Sonja and I were filled with joy ourselves by contributing to her happiness.
I think there is a valuable lesson to be learned here. Far too often, our strategy for experiencing happiness is hope. We hope happiness will come our way or we hope our loved ones will experience happiness. However, happiness that just happens can also just happen to go away.
There is a better way: Why not “cause” happiness and joy to occur. Most people want to be a “happiness magnet” (hopefully attracting happiness to themselves). Why not determine to be a “happiness generator” (causing others to experience happiness). Like Sonja and me on our “Trinitee date night”, you’ll experience far more joy and happiness causing joy for others than you ever would hoping that happiness just happens to come your way.
