Today’s ONE THING: Are you right? And does it matter…

  • Acts 10:34-35 (NKJV) “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”

There is a big difference between doing right and being right.  Today’s bible lesson teaches that there are two things that please God:

(1)   “Fearing God” – that is showing God the honor and respect that is His due

(2)   “Work of righteousness” – that is obeying God’s commands.

However, some people confuse being right with doing right.  The “being right” person is the person that has to get the last word every time.  They are the ones that must win every argument, have the right opinion about everything, and can never be corrected.  I bet as you were reading this someone(s) came to mind.  Isn’t it a challenge getting along with them?

I remember a little refrain that we used to sing when I was a boy.  It went like this: “Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey.”

That sums it up well.  Happiness doesn’t require always being right it only requires “fearing God” and doing your best to “do right”.  You do not have to win every fight; matter of fact you do not even have to fight in every fight, sometimes it’s better to just let some things go.

Do right?  Unquestionably.  Be right?  Not necessarily.
