- Acts 10:34 (NKJV) “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.”
My mother-in-law visited with us over the weekend and she shared a funny little story from Sonja’s childhood. Back in the day, castor oil was the cure of choice for many illnesses. However, the statement: the cure was worse than the illness, was never truer than with castor oil. (Yucky doesn’t even come close to describing having to shallow a dose of castor oil!)
On one particularly occasion, Ruby in a moment of desperation reverted to the old standby – castor oil, in an effort to treat Sonja for an illness. This “special” treatment made her old sister, Sharon, jealous. So Sharon reprimanded her mother about how she always showed favoritism to Sonja and commented the she had never been given castor oil.
Ruby decided to teach Sharon a lesson and allowed her to take a good dose of castor oil. As you can imagine, Sharon was cured! Cured of jealously that is.
Remember that little story the next time you feel like God is showing favoritism. Trust today’s verse: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.” I’d hate for God to have to cure you of jealously! 🙂
