- Acts 10:23 (NKJV) Then he invited them in and lodged them.
Over the years my wife has brought home some strange guests. On one occasion she brought home an extremely trouble woman to spend the night with us. I was so concerned that I slipped into the kitchen and gathered up all the kitchen knives and hid them and locked our bedroom door that night. On another occasion, she brought home a cello player who had missed his flight and had nowhere to stay. He earned his room and board that evening by giving us a private concert.
This is just a sampling. As you can see, being married to Sonja is never dull.
How about your life – dull or exciting?
Often we are encouraged to be careful about what we allow into our homes; and that is a good thing. However, there is another side to that story: perhaps we should do a better job in what and whom we invite into our homes.
Our homes were never meant to be fortresses. Christian homes are to be homes of hospitality where laughter, healing and help are provided. I wonder how many blessings and unexpected concerts we have missed because we’ve lost the art of hospitality and learned the art of guarding fortresses.
