Today’s ONE THING: Are you henpecked?

  • John 13:13-14 (NKJV)You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but do you see a subtle change in Jesus’ words vs. the words of the disciples?  Take a moment and look…see the difference?

The disciples described Jesus as “Teacher and Lord”; Jesus, reversing the words, describes himself as “Lord and Teacher.”

There is a difference and the difference is huge.  We must never forget that anything that comes before the Lordship of Jesus Christ makes Him less than He really is.  Many people will concede that Jesus was a great teacher.  Many are happy with accepting him as their Savior.  But Lord?  Now that is a different thing.  Jesus being our Lord means He has the right to tell us what to do.  It means His agenda supersedes our agenda.  It means His priorities must be our priorities.  It means that everything we own belongs to Him and is at his disposal; matter of fact, it means we belong to Him and are at his disposal.

Why would you want to submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ?  Well it’s like the old farmer said, “Whether or not you mind being “henpecked” all depends on who the “hen” is.”

So dear friend, in the words of the great hymn writer – Bob Dylan (just kidding on the hymn writer part:)) – everybody “Gotta Serve Somebody.”  Both experience and history clearly demonstrates that the very best person to turn your life over to is the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Making that decision will spare you so much grieve – both in this life and in the life to come.  If you haven’t done so yet, why not today?
