Today’s ONE THING: Take dem lumps and keep on going!

  • John 12:10 (NKJV) But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also.

How would you feel if you were Lazarus?  Just the fact that he was alive upset the Jewish leadership and they planned to do something about it – make sure that he was no longer alive!

You probably know the story.  Lazarus had died and Jesus showed up four days later and raised him from the dead.  Now that is a blessing!  But here’s the point: Be prepared for persecution and resistance when you receive life through Jesus Christ.  Not everyone is going to celebrate the fact that you have become a Christian.

Jesus warned us about this.  He said, “And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.” (Luke 21:17)  Not very encouraging is it?

But here’s the deal, life in Christ is worth it.   The Christian faith has countless stories of faithful followers being martyred for their faith.  Why would they do this?  All they had to do was deny Jesus and live; but they choose death over denying their faith.  Why?  Because the wonderful benefits and abundant life discovered in believing on Jesus Christ was worth it.

I certainly hope that you do not have to suffer for you faith today, but don’t be surprised if you do.  If you do, remember, the life and joy that Jesus gives is worth it.  Don’t be one of those sad, morose Christians that go around with a “holy chip” on their shoulder.  Put a smile on your face; hold your head up and face the world.  Worse case scenario you are still far better off having received the life-giving blessing of being raised into ever-lasting life in Jesus Christ.

So…take dem lumps and keep on going!
