Today’s ONE THING: Who is Greater?

  • John 4:12  Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

Today I’ve got another question for you.  It’s not original with me; I suspect that it is a question that has been asked for as long as there have been people around.

In our study of John 4, we read a version of this question coming from the woman that Jesus met up with at the community well of a little village in Samaria.

Keep in mind that to this woman Jacob was the epitome of greatness.  He was her people’s founding father, an anointed Prince of Israel chosen by God.  Who could be greater than that?  So when she asked, “Are you greater than Jacob?” in a way she was giving Jesus a compliment; she was putting him almost at the top of her list of important people.

So what is the answer to this woman’s question?  The answer is, “Yes.”  Yes, Jesus is greater than Jacob.  Yes!  Jesus is greater than anyone and anything.

What is your version of this question?  You fill in the blank: “Jesus, are you greater than __________?”

Whatever or whomever is challenging you right now remember that there is always One who is greater.  Focusing your hope on Jesus will get you through whatever you’re going through.  Keeping your relationship with Jesus Christ strong is the single most important thing you can do every day; there is nothing or no one that is of greater importance.

You may not have the answers to all your questions, but if you can answer today’s question correctly everything else will eventually fall into place.
