- John 4:11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?
Often the words of Jesus raise more questions than they do answers – this is a good thing, it helps us to get to the truth. In her dialogue with Jesus, the woman that Jesus met at the well in Sychar had several questions. Today’s verse gives an important one: “Where then do You get that living water?”
Note two things about this question. First, she thought in terms of the physical vs. the spiritual, and second, because of thinking in terms of the physical she was immediately drawn to possible physical limitations.
Here’s the irony of it all, the woman was talking to God! Jesus was able to create fresh drinking water out of a rock if he had so desired, but that was not the issue. He was trying to teach her a deeper truth, which would radically change every issue and thirst in her life.
Could you be doing the same today? Are you so locked into the physical realities of the moment that you are missing the deeper issues? If your motto is: “If it is to be it’s up to me” (or some other human), then you’re in trouble, for most certainly there will be limitations and handicaps. However, if you are willing to live your life on the premise that God is with you and that everything that is happening in your life today serve a higher purpose then – get this – nothing is impossible!
Measure your situation with the tape measure of your resources and strength and you’re in trouble. Measure whether or not you are succeeding according to the standards of those around you and you are in trouble; but if you’ll measure your life and your potential in light of the fact that Jesus is with you – then all bets are off.
Get the answer right and you get to jump into the deep in of the pool. Let’s go for it!
