Today’s ONE THING: If you’re from “Nowhere”

  • John 4:4So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar

Have you ever heard of Walhalla, Westminster, Joanna and Hamer?  Unless you are familiar with the state of South Carolina, I doubt it.  These are all little towns (“Mill Villages”) that I lived in as a boy.

Even today, I live in a little township called Fort Mill, named after a fort and a mill (pretty boring huh?)  But it gets worst, the towns surrounding me are named after a rocky hill, pines, and land where Native Americans once lived.

I do not mention these towns and small cities to poke fun at them for indeed, I have wonderful memories about all my childhood homes and I couldn’t be happier living in the Fort Mill area.

But here’s the point – Jesus makes a point to go to little out-of-the-way places.  Whether it is a large city like Jerusalem or a small village like Sychar, Jesus will visit there.

I’m especially thankful that 47 years ago that Jesus visited a little church on South John street, in a little town called Walhalla; it was on that night that I first experienced “living water.”

Let this be a reminder to you today that no matter where you are, John’s recording of a short-term mission’s trip that Jesus took to a little obscure village to minister to a little obscure woman badly in need of living water, is a reminder that Jesus will come to where you are as well.

So be of good courage you can’t be anywhere that Jesus won’t go and you can’t be someone who Jesus will not care about.
