Today’s ONE THING: Do you need to go?

  • John 4:4 But He needed to go through Samaria.

Before leaving this intriguing little verse, I’d like to use it to ask you a question: “Do you need to go on a short-term mission trip?”

The truth of the matter is that Jesus was a “home body”, he seldom travel far from home and mostly then only to go Jerusalem.  However, on a few occasions Jesus intentionally made short trips outside his own country to reach out to people who were not of the Jewish race or religion.

Like us, when Jesus walked this earth he was limited in what he could do and where he could be thus his main focus remained ministering to his own people and communities.  However, He was very much aware that his mission and message had global ramifications and thus he began early planting the seeds for that global outreach that the average Jew of his day would never have dreamed of reachin out to.

His trip to the hated Samaritans recorded in the fourth chapter of John’s gospel is one such example.

Nothing has changed.  I suspect there are many of God’s “home-bodies” that need to get out of their comfort zone and take the message of Jesus Christ to others outside their own borders.  Are you one of those?

I know the day that I responded to Jesus’ call where he said; “David, you need to go…” was one of the most defining and life-changing events of my life.  I’ve never regretted going and I look forward to going again.

Dear friend, start setting back a few dollars each week so you’ll be ready when Jesus says, “Come, go with me.”  You’ll be ever so glad you did.
