John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son”
Which would you prefer I do for you: a) Reach in my wallet and pull out all the cash I have and give it to you, b) cash out all my retirement account and give you the proceeds, or c) cash out everything I have – house, assets and all cash – and give it to you?
Now don’t get excited, I’m only using this as an example. J
Here is the example: If I voluntarily chose any of the above options, it would tell you something about how much I value you. There are many people who I would give all the cash in my wallet to if they were in need. There are even some people who I would endanger my future ability to take care of my wife and me during our retirement and there are a few people who I would sell out and move my wife and me out on the street for if the need was that great.
What I am saying is this: The gift I am willing to give reflects the love I have for someone and it also reflects the desperateness of their need.
Now the punch line: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”
I am stunned! I am stunned on two accounts. First, God gave his only Son for you, me and everyone in the world (past, present and future). Oh how God must love us!
However, here is the somber thought, can you imagine how dire our situation is if God had to give His only Son to be crucified on a cross in order for us to be bailed out?
My dear prayer partners think of this in light of your prayer time today. When you approach God, do so in awe of His great love for you. Humility and gratitude is the only appropriate response.
Furthermore, when you pray for people let there be an urgency about it; without God we are desperate, doomed and damned. Let’s not spend too much time asking God to open his wallet and give us a little spending money. The fact that He’s already bankrupted Heaven for us is an indication that something is seriously wrong in this world.
No wonder the first thing Paul instructed pastors to do is to call on men everywhere to pray (1 Timothy 2:8)
Let us be diligent to pray, to be devoted to prayer, to be men of prayer.
Pray brothers, pray!
