The ONE THING for June 22, 2012: A Call for Men (and Women) to Pray – 5/28 Days of Developing a Prayer Life

I don’t usually announce to the world when I am out-of-town but this morning is too good to not mention.  Sonja and I and both our children and their families have taken a couple of days and gone on a “family get-away” to the beach.  The reason I mention this is now I know why the good Lord impressed upon my heart to challenge men (and women) to pray in short segments.

Little David Lee spent the night with Sonja and I last night and he was up this morning a little after 6:00 a.m.  That’s no problem for Sonja and me; we’re “early birds”.  However, we’re not used to having a “little bird” jumping around.  The first thing that came out of his mouth this morning was, “Let’s go play in the pool.”  Now I can assure you that one of the first things on my mind early in the morning is more “caffeine” related, not swimming in a pool.

Needless to say, it has been an adventure this morning and I mention this, not to bore you with yet another “papa story”; I mention this because I have been reminded of all my young parents that are up and at it this morning trying to get their children fed, dressed and off to wherever they go during the day while getting themselves dressed for work and prepared for the daily duties of life – God bless you guys!

I want to remind you that God understands if you don’t have time to pray and hour or two today, that season will come a little later in life.  For today, brothers (and sisters), a quiet few minutes with your Father God is probably good enough.

I hope you will not be the sort of parent that makes your children feel guilty if they don’t stop everything and sit and talk/listen to you for a couple of hours every day; I assure you that your Heavenly Father is not that way.  What matters to Him is the fact that you love and appreciate Him and express that gratitude (isn’t that what you want from your children?).

Let me give you one more (I promise it will be quick) “papa story”.  Yesterday was the first time Trinitee saw the ocean.  Her description of that event was, “It’s awesome!”  There’s you a two-word prayer; a prayer of praise.

There will be seasons in your life when you will be able to take more time and express yourself to God, but for now, a few moments to just remember God and say, “I love you”, “That’s awesome!” or “Help me!” is good enough.

So brothers and sisters – pray!  Pray long prayers when you can, but short prayers work too.

Oops, gotta go…a two-year-old is calling…
