Brothers, I pray that things have gone well with you through the first two days. Remember, the ultimate goal is to try to have a place and a time that you pray, this is the essence of a prayer life. The key word for today is “try”. I hope you go three-for-three everyday but if you go one, two, or three for three (or 0-fer) on any given day, just the fact that you know what you did is an indication that you are leaning God-ward with a heart for prayer…that counts and that creates momentum as you focus on developing a prayer life. So keep it up, you’re becoming a better man and that is going to make for a better world.
For those of you that did not get the Sunday devotional guide, the following is the devotional for today:
- Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
- Psalm 24:3-5
- 3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?
- 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully.
- 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
The Three “R’s” of Prayer (1/3): Repent
Brothers, before praise, before asking, before anything – when you pray – repent! Keep short accounts with God.
As our devotional stated yesterday, God has put certain things in our hands. There are relationships, responsibilities and assets that God has entrusted into our care and the number one thing we can do to give a good account of ourselves is to pray concerning those things (1 Timothy 2:1-8).
However, there is nothing that stops the effectiveness of our prayer life like having “unclean hands.”
Allow the Holy Spirit to take inventory every time you pray. The return in your life and in the lives of those you love will be enormous.
