Man, I despise reading 2 Samuel 11! Up until then one of my heroes and namesake, King David, is doing great, God is on His throne and life is good. And then from I Samuel 11 on it’s like the wheels come off – death, disaster and calamity. Why?! It’s summed up in 2 Samuel 11:1 – “In the spring when kings march out to war, David sent Joab…”
I know, “If Christmas was candy and nuts, it would be Christmas all year long.” But if only King David had done what he was supposed to do – Go! – lives would have been saved, sins would have not happened and his family and several others would have been spared so much grief and sorrow. What was he thinking? Why did he send Joab instead of stepping up and do what kings were supposed to do?
Oh well, its history now; however, there is still a lesson to be learned: There are just some things in life that cannot be delegated. Thankfully, there are not many, but knowing what they are and following through on them is vitally, vitally…did I say vitally?…important.
There are a lot of things that it would be good for you and me to do. There’s things you and I should do. However, there are a few things that we must do; to send someone else will be disastrous.
Bottom line, prayerfully determine your “must do” list and don’t allow anyone or anything to distract you from following through it.
