The ONE THING for today…”God’s Call on your Life” (Part 3)

As we continue to examine what it means to have God’s call upon our lives eventually the issue of leadership will surface.  In some capacity, every person is a leader.  Recently I heard an excellent definition of leadership by Karen Wheaton in which she said that “Leadership is living a life worth following.”

John Maxwell’s definition of leadership is well-known: “Leadership is influence.”  I often remind people that “Leadership is taking responsibility.”

Above all, if you are to think of leadership in biblical terms then you must terms of serving.  True leaders serve.  They serve by living a life worth following, they serve by intentionally exerting influence for the betterment of those they lead and they serve by taking responsibility.

Bottom line, leadership is not about position, power and perks, it is about serving.  That is why the third aspect of God’s calling on my life goes like this:

  • THIRD: God’s Call on my lifeGod has called and gifted me to be a leader, which is being able to see and create a better future for those I serve than they would have without me.

How would you sum up God’s call on your life to lead?  I encourage you to hammer out your definition of leadership as you clarify God’s calling on your life.
