The ONE THING for today…

Today’s ONE THING is the same as yesterday’s: Stay focused on the 5% (those few things that only you can do).

I don’t know how much you know about making homemade biscuits, you may be more like me – I know a lot about eating them than making them.  But one thing I do know about baking biscuits is that every batch of biscuits that has ever been made are made from the same basic ingredients.  In spite of this, homemade biscuits are as different from cook to cook as a finger print.  For example, I can tell my mother’s biscuits from my mother-in-law’s biscuits easily (both are very good by the way / can’t get on thin ice here!).   How does this happen?  How can it be that different people using the same basic ingredients turn out such individualistic biscuits?

Answer: I really don’t know.  Therein lays the mystery of the “5%”.  The 5% that only you can do each day is that mysterious difference that only you can make – “your touch.”

It is a father praying or playing with his child, anyone willing could do the same with that dad’s child but it would not be the same as “his touch”.

The 5% is that hard to define element that a woman brings to her home that makes it unlike any other home in the world.   It is more than “a woman’s touch” it is her touch and it makes all the difference.

I’ll beat this drum one more day – I have an important principle that I want to share with you tomorrow – but for today I’ll leave you with the following…

I have a little saying that I use from time to time, it goes like this: “Sign your work.”

What I mean by that is do everything as if your reputation and character is on the line.  Every day you live you are leaving evidence behind that reveals – much more than what you say – who you really are, i.e. you’re signing your work.  It’s that personal touch – your invisible signature – that is the “5%”.
