Devotional for today…

John 10:7 Jesus said: “I am the door…he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

Here’s a good one for you, try to picture a “sheepfold” your mind.   Not easy?  That figures, for most of us sheepherding is a foreign concept.  Instead of me trying to explain to you what a sheepfold is let me tell you what it represents.

A “sheepfold” for you is anywhere you really want to be.  Now don’t confuse where you really want to be with where you “have” to be or where you think you want to be.

A little later today, you may find yourself really wanting to get to work.  What you mean by that is you are running late and you wish the traffic would get out of the way.  The truth of the matter is that really, really (down deep) you don’t want to be at work, there’s a dozen other places you’d rather be.

Another example is that often we really, really want some item or other.  For example, the tech giant Apple capitalizes on this to make billions of dollars.  They build a “need” in millions of people’s lives that conclude that what they really want is the next “gizmo.”  But the truth is that is not what they really want.

What we really want, and where we really want to be is in a state of peace and happiness.  There are two words given to us in the Bible that describe where we want to be: “Life” and “Heaven.”

There is an emptiness deep in our lives that nothing on this planet can really fill – not a person, not a place and most certainly not a thing.

Now there is not anything wrong – necessarily – with a particular person, place or a thing, but for them to contribute to you having life they must first go through the “door” (Jesus Christ).

If you are trying to find your way into the “sheepfold” through any other relationship or destination than Jesus, you are doomed for disappointment – both now and forever.

The central issue of your life is: Your relationship with Jesus Christ is the access point for everything you desire in life.

Or put another way, He is the door to where you really, really, really want to be.
