40-days Devotional Guide for February 22

Good morning!

Today is day 36/40 – the finish line is almost in sight.  Today I am suggesting that you go back over the first six signs that we have studied during our 40-day season.  Think about it this way.  What if you had to record in a very short booklet a summary of the life of a dearly loved relative and you could only pick out seven events in their life to describe them.  Think how carefully you would be in choosing those events.

Day 36/40 - You're almost to the summit!

That is the task that John had.  In a very short essay that we know as “The Gospel of John” he had to carefully choose a few events to help people who had never heard of Jesus to believe that he was the Messiah (especially important to his Jewish audience) and to also believe that Jesus was the Son of God (important to everyone).

John knew if people could get his message about Jesus and believe, that they would discover the source of life – both here and in the hereafter (John 20:30-31).  Thus the following six signs (number seven on Sunday) are the events out of all the events John could have chosen from the life of Jesus to help us believe in Jesus and thus have life.    So you can imagine how important they are.  They are not random events that John thought were interesting, they have a very special meaning and purpose; and the good news is that they are for every generation since the first generation – including us.

So my prayer today is as you walk slowly through the signs throughout the day that the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart and strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ so that your life will be more abundant than ever going forth.

Blessings to you today,

dlkemp
