In spite of the sadness I felt about Sonia’s “growing up” the highlight of the trip for me was that afternoon spent with the children. And I suspect it was the highlight of our visit for the children as well.
Over the years, we have invested countless dollars and man-hours to supporting and improving the lives of the children at Casa Hogan Canaan House. We have had many teams go in and bless the children with toys, clothes and supplies. We have had teams that have devoted themselves to improving the facilities and grounds and we’ve purchased the best appliances available – all because we love and care for those children.
All of this is extremely important and necessary. But at the end of the day, the most rewarding thing that we can do for the children is to actually spend time with them.
While tying this devotional on my laptop I happened to glance at the screen on my home computer and it showed a picture of me holding David Lee on his first birthday. My how David Lee has grown and changed since then. A moment later his sister, Ella Grace came crawling around the corner and looked up me; she is following in her big brother’s steps – quickly.
Those few precious years when our children are small pass by so quickly. Those precious unhurried moments that have with those we love are so rare. My dear friend, with all your work, don’t forget why you work!
Excuse me; I’ve gotta go love on a granddaughter…
