100802: A rare typical day… (Reality Check 3/7)

Good evening everyone,

Today has been a joy.  In light of all the traveling I’ve had to do over the last few weeks, just to have a day in Fort Mill was a wonderful blessing and privilege.  Things were in excellent working order when I arrived at the office this morning.  I am so blessed to have the staff of pastors and administrators that I have.  They make all our lives so much better.

This evening has been a relaxing time.  Sonja prepared one of her world-famous meals (they’re world famous because I brag on them wherever I go).  She prepared an old family recipe \ some kind of casserole that the kids have liked since they were little.  She brought a new type of sauce that took it up to another level…yum, yum, good!  She also tried a new way of cooking corn which was outstanding and we had fresh watermelon for desert.  Life is good!

3.0 enjoying himself at the beach yesterday - he took his mom and dad with him on vacation.

Tonight I’m adding the third question my “Reality Checklist Questions”…

  1. Reality Check: Who am I trying to please?
  2. Reality Check: With whom am I competing?
  3. Reality Check: What am I trying to acquire that defines security for me?
  •  For some people, security is a moving target.  They’ve never taken the time to truly examine their lives to discover what brings them security.  Thus they never experience the peace that comes with being a secure person.  Insecure people struggle with relationships; they can’t take the risks that are required to succeed.  Insecure people have trouble enjoying any success they may have already achieved; they’re always looking over their shoulder worrying about someone unseen enemy.
  • Bottom line, one of the best investments of your time is to drill down until you can honestly state what is required for you to feel secure.

And with that advice I bid you good evening with kindest regards.

 In His grip,

Tonight I just added all my quotations for the day.  They were all so good I had trouble narrowing them down to just one or two.  Enjoy…

  • “I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle I just wish that he didn’t trust me so much.” _Mother Teresa
  •  “Every gift from a friend is a wish for your happiness.”  Richard Bach, author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull
  •  “There are two kinds of faith.  One says if and the other says though.” _George Everett Ross, quoted by Phillip Yancey, Reaching for the Invisible God, page 52
  • “Never make a major decision that bets the entire ranch on being right.” _ Patrick M. Morley, Two Part Harmony
  • “The difference between praise and petition is the absence of self.” _Charles Swindoll, Living Beyond the Daily Grind
  • “The difference between a hunter and a sportsman is that the hunter regrets the killing blow.” _David L. Kemp (Inspired by Richard Wilbur’s poem, Castles and Distances – stanza 4 and my study of Genesis 9:4)

Oh. It is hunters alone

Regret the beastly pain, it is they who love the foe

That quarries out their force, and every arrow

Is fathered soft with wishes to atone;

Even the surest sword in sorrow

Bleeds for its spoiling blow.
