100714: Wednesday Update… \ Reality Check 1/7

Hello everyone!

It’s been a great week so far.  On Monday morning the Holy Spirit really touched me at my morning staff meeting and I have felt the pleasure and presence of God ever since.  I know that we as a church are more focused on the things that truly matter to Jesus and with that comes His presence and where Jesus is there is joy!

What a difference a year makes! I included this picture today to remind you of the progress you're making. It is easy in the heat of the moment to forget how far God has brought you!

I’ve been working on the Mission everyday this week and two things that really stands out is that we will be ordering two portable baptisteries tomorrow.  One is designed to be used in the main Sanctuary, Family Life Center and Center for Discipleship.  Also, we will order a “field” baptistery.  This one will be designed to take with us on mission trips, off-campus events, etc.  Truly we are paving the way to become a “baptizing people” vs. a church that does baptisms occasionally.

Also, I’ve met with the Mission’s board twice now and they are making excellent progress in developing a Mission Ministry plan to be presented to you in November.  My challenge to them last night was to become missionaries; not just people who support missions.  They whole-heartedly agreed.  It is our desire that everyone at the FMCOG becomes a missionary – beginning right in our “Jerusalem” and moving from there to the uttermost parts of the world.  Trust me; you’re going to be excited about their plans.

Today, let me close with a new affirmation series.  I call it my “Reality Check” affirmations.  They are designed to keep me focused on things that really matter and motives that are pure.  Here’s the first one…

FIRST Reality Check: Who am I trying to please?

  • Often when we feel restless, sad or a “little down” it usually has something to do with this question.  One of the ways that we set ourselves up to be discouraged is by having unrealistic expectations.  At the end of the day, the One you must please is Jesus.  If you get that right you will live a balanced life that keeps your priorities right and defines that correct expectations.  When you fail to do this you are at the mercy of thousands of “little gods” (people’s expectations, including your own) and you will never be able to please all those little deities.

Blessings and prayers for a great rest of the day…
