I’ve been sort of sad today because this is the last week of school and that means that Jennifer will be off for the summer and that means that Sonja and I will not be keeping David Lee while the kids are working / I’m going to miss seeing that boy every day! But I’m only the grandparent and grandparents are only there to help and spoil (yea!).
As I’ve been mediating on this today I was reminded that God has no grandchildren – none, zip, nil, zero, zilch, naught, none. Grandparents get to play with the grandchildren, love on them (be the nice guy) and then at the end of the day grandparents give the grandchildren back to their parents.
Parents on the other hand are always responsible. They are never relieved from the pressure of protecting, providing for, and taking care of their child/children in every way. They never stop cleaning up messes and they never get a vacation from the pressure and responsibility.
That is how God is – he’s a parent / not a grandparent. He’s looking out for you and me all the time. He’s committed to cleaning up our messes and listening to our cries and He’s committed to doing it 24/7.
Yes, being a grandparent is a wonderful experience, but when it comes to God, I don’t want a grandparent, I want a Father God.
Resting in his care,
dlk
