Good evening all you hard working and dedicated PEPers and other brave souls in parts unknown (and known),
I thought about having some fun with my blog title tonight \ maybe something like, “Backseat Lovin’” but thought that may a little too much \ at least for a title of a blog by a pastor. But the truth be known, the highlight of the day for me happened in the backseat of my wife’s car (got your attention?!).
Well it goes like this…
I was driven around twice today \ once by Lee and once by Sonja. Both involved going to and returning from a luncheon I had with the pastors on my district. After lunch I rode back with Lee and Jonathan; Jonathan in deference to the “old man” insisted on sitting in the back seat. I appreciate the fact that these younger men were willing to honor their elder \ I would have done the same. But the best trip was on the way to the luncheon when I sat in the backseat with, you guessed it – “the Lad” (my grandson, David Lee). Sonja wanted to attend the luncheon, but being “nana” and keeping David Lee required that he tag along (no problem with me!) However, the problem was that David Lee wasn’t into waiting until we arrived at the restaurant to partake of his lunch, so you guessed it, I’m in the back seat giving him his bottle / it was a privilege and joy. Riding in the front seat is great but it doesn’t compare with serving my grandson in the back seat.
David Lee wasn’t impressed one bit that I was his elder, a District Overseer or any of the other titles and tags that I may justly claim; all he knew was that I could be trusted and the smile he gave me was reward enough.
As I sat back there on the way to lunch giving the Lad his bottle my thoughts turned to our heavenly Father \ Wow! What a mighty and powerful and important being He is! But what does He do? Why He daily stoops to serve us \ caring for us \ guiding us \ protecting us \ loving us. He doesn’t have to \ but far more than we can even comprehend \ He loves us more than we love our own \ it still amazes me (!!!). Yes, that was a special ride over to the restaurant today \ I was able to ride in the back seat with my dear grandson \ but more importantly he and my awesome Father God choose to join us! Life is good \ and by the way \ Sonja’s driving is not too bad either!
And let me say to each of you tonight \ God doesn’t love me any more than He loves you \ He is deliriously in love with you \ rest in that this evening and may that assurance give you strength to face your tomorrow \ no matter what it may hold.
Warmest regards and with kind thoughts toward you,
dlkemp
