The Game Was Cancelled

Good evening everyone!

Well, it’s been a pretty good day in “kempville.”  I’ve spent much of the day preparing for Sunday.  With God’s help I believe I have a good word for us on Sunday.  And by the way, I’ve been in contact with last minutes details on the entire service with Pastor Jonathan – we’ve got a great day planned.  I believe it will be a day that honors all you dads but also ministers to everyone.

This evening Sonja and I decided to go watch our church softball team play their game tonight.   When we got there we discovered that the game had been called off due to a scheduling conflict.  We were disappointed.  We had prepared ourselves to go root for the home team.  However, there was nothing we could do about it.   But at least our guys knew that we cared enough to make the effort.

That event reminded me of so many things in life.  Life is full of cancellations, setbacks and changes of plans.  Everything we try doesn’t work and everything we plan doesn’t happen…that’s life.  But nothing can take away the fact that we tried.  One day when we stand before Jesus he will not say, “Well done, good and perfect servant!”  No!  Instead He will say, “Well done good and faithful servant.”  So on this Friday night why don’t you do the same for yourself.  Perhaps it’s been “one of those weeks.”  Plans may have fallen through, efforts may have come up short and words may have been misunderstood.  That’s how life is…games get cancelled.  But you tried.  Effort counts with God, let it count with you.

Blessing everyone…rest well…and leave the rest to God,

david l. kemp
