Sonja’s Day

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Good morning everyone! I pray that you are off to a good start today. Today promises to be a little different for me. Today is “Sonja’s Day.” This is what I gave her for Mother’s day – a full day of doing whatever she wants to do – all expenses paid.

I got this idea from Wayne Ludlum who mentioned to me once that occasionally he will have a “Betty’s Day” and do the same thing for his wife.

Truly time is the greatest gift we can give to someone. I encourage you to take a look at your how you are using your time today. Please make time for God and for those you love the most. Don’t allow the “noise” of this day to rob you of making an investment in the things that really matter.

I’ll keep you posted on how my “Sonja’s day” goes. Right now it appears that our itinerary is:

  • Going to King’s Mountain State Park for a hike. (Frodo in tow)
  • Lunch at McDonalds (Sonja says “salads” but I may have to slip in a Big Mac! After all, I will have burned a LOT of calories on my hike!)
  • Home to cleanup and go to a matinee showing of “The Soloist” (I hope it is not a “chic flick”)
  • Dinner at Cheesecake factory (using a Mother’s day gift card from Lee and Jennifer – thanks Lee and Jennifer! You’re saving me a little money)
  •  Then stroll around the Mall, get a coffee at Starbucks and then come home.

Pray for me saints!

So there you have it – another day in the life of the Kemps – through a little different than most!

Wishing you a very special day – with God and friends,

Prayer of the day…

Father God, on this day I am reminded of John the Baptist and how he was born for a special purpose. I believe that each of us was also born for a special purpose. Like John the Baptist that purpose is to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. Today we are going to face many different situations. Furthermore, there will be the potential for many different people to cross our paths. I pray that the same Holy Spirit that moved upon John the Baptist – even in his mother’s womb – would move upon us. Fill us with your Spirit, afresh and anew! Give us a passion and loyalty for Jesus Christ; for truly He is the only answer for the situations and people that we will encounter today. May our lives reveal the love of Christ and may the power of the Gospel be revealed in us. Help us to live holy and pure lives – in word and deed.

I also ask that You will minister to the needs of us all. To those that cry out for healing and strength – please come to them in their hour of need. Protect us by your might and provide for our daily needs. Keep our loved ones and bring us all back home safe this day.

I ask these things in the strong and mighty name of our Lord and Savior, JESUS CHRIST, amen.

Affirmation of the day…

NOTE: These affirmations have to do with our health.

1. Through Jesus Christ and by His stripes…I am walking in health and strength. (Proverbs 3:7-8)
2. My back is strong and pain free because of the mercy of God and my commitment to be a good steward of the wonderfully made body that He has given me through exercise and proper diet.

 090514: Last night I attended the youth service. With it being the youth service the praise and worship was a little longer than what we have in regular worship service. About half way through the praise and worship time I remember thinking that there was a time that standing that long would have been torturous to me because of lower back pain. Yet last night I was able to stand throughout the entire time without any pain! (PTL!) I am so thankful that God has helped me to discipline myself to take care of this body that He has given me.
 All of us must deal with aches and pains. That is a part of growing older. However, being a good steward includes doing everything within our power to manage well the body God has given us. Our body is a tool and, as every workman knows, we will be no better than the tools we have. So I encourage each of you to take another look at how you are taking care of your body.

Quotes of the Day:

  • “The closer you are to God, the farther you are from the devil.” _Billy Graham, The Journey, p. 101
  • “Your growth and mine into the likeness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be in exact proportion to the time and to the heart we put into prayer.” _R. A. Torrey, from his sermon: “The Power of Prayer.”
  • “The God who does for us what we cannot do for ourselves helps us to do for ourselves what we cannot do without God.” _David James Randolph, The Power that Heals, p. 84
