A Young Man Flees Naked

Now a certain young man followed Him, having a linen cloth thrown around his naked body. And the young men laid hold of him, and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.

__Mark 14:51-52 (NKJV)

I couldn’t help but chuckle at the heading my study bible gave to the little sidenote that Mark added in his Gospel: “A Young Man Flees Naked.”

There had been no humor before this sidenote and none following. In this section of his Gospel, Mark records the events surrounding Jesus’s death by crucifixion.

Very somber stuff indeed.

But in the midst of all the drama, Mark adds a little sidenote about a young man who was following Jesus and at the moment of Jesus’s arrest.

Turns out the arresting officers wanted to arrest the young man too! But he escaped by running out of his cloths!

The general consensus is that Mark was that young man.

Here’s the thought that occurred to me today, its my challenge to you and me…

The ONE THING for today: Don’t be a passive observer of life. Write yourself into the story!

The story doesn’t have to be about you.

You don’t have to be the main character.

But be a part of the story.

Get involved in what is going on around you.

Afterall, you’re writing a Gospel too.

Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some person ever reads.”
